Election Results

President Trump was elected President this week. Republicans also took back control of the Senate. At the time of writing this blog, the status of the House is still uncertain although most analysts believe that Republicans will ultimately take control of the House. In the event that President Trump would be able to push through major changes with an expectation that cuts will happen to Medicaid but beyond that there is some uncertainty. In DC the phrase “personnel is policy” is often uttered to highlight who makes decisions at the White House/HHS will go a long way to determining what policy preferences ultimately emerge.
Wakely/HMA will be hosting a number of webinars on the implications of the election. Please see below for the topics and links for signing up to learn more about what potential changes may be in store.

Odds and End

  • There were a number of health care related ballot initiatives. Becker’s Health has a good summary of them here including Med-Cal physicians getting a pay increase and South Dakota approving work requirements.
  • CMS released its 2025 physician payment rule including a 2.83% payment cut for 2025. Congress is expected to debate during its lame duck session whether to mitigate some of those cuts
