Achyut Bathani has more than 10 years of experience in actuarial consulting for Affordable Care Act (ACA) individual plans and Medicare Advantage (MA) bids.
Before joining Wakely Consulting Group, an HMA Company, Achyut was the director of actuarial services for the ACA individual side at Bright Health Group. In this role, he created a scalable process for ACA pricing and touched on all aspects of the pricing cycle. This includes contracting, model development, experience analysis, and mentoring a team of consultants and analysts.
As a senior actuarial consultant for ACA individual plans at Bright Health Group, Achyut led pricing efforts for Alabama, California, Florida, and Oklahoma. He also led the actuarial team’s efforts on the company’s application to Covered California and as a result, they became the first new entrant allowed by Covered California in four years. He proposed and analyzed reimbursement rate requirements for expansion markets, created a model to develop professional capitation rates to support their entry into the California market, and conducted modeling to support the development of their out-of-network reimbursement policy for hold-harmless states.
Achyut was also an actuarial associate at Milliman, where he assisted insurers in the pricing and preparation of MA bids (MA only, MA-Prescription Drug, and Medicare Part D), supported insurers in product development and the pricing of plans compliant with the ACA in both small group and individual markets in various states, and performed experience studies, reserve establishments, financial forecasting, and other quantitative modeling for clients. He was also involved in developing a core Milliman tool used to benchmark claim costs under various plan designs.
Achyut earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is an associate of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
